There are various types of gums used in the normal society. Gaur Gum is the most popular type of gum used in day today life and in industries. Other gums can be classified as cellulose gums, bio fermented gums, xanthan gums etc.

Guar gums and its derivatives.

Seed Gums
The polymer of Guar Gum is soluble in both the hot as well as the cold waters. This gum is extracted from the seed known as Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba from the Guar plant. The polymer of this gum is classified as galactomannan polysaccharide.

Sesbania Gum
Sesbania gum is extracted from the seeds of Sesbania (Sesbania Aculeate). It is soluble with both hot and cold waters and this polymer is also classified as galactomannan polysaccharide.

Cassia Gum
This polymer is soluble only in hot water and it is extracted from the seeds of Cassia (Cassia Tora).

Tamarind Gums
This polymer can dissolve in hot water. This gum is extracted from the seeds of Tamarind (Tamarindus Indicus). The contents are d-glucopyranosyl, d-xylopyranosyl, d-galactopyranosyl and l-arabinofuranosyl sugars.

Locust Bean Gum.
This polymer is also soluble in hot water and its extraction is made from the seeds of Locust Beans (Ceratonia Siliqua). Galactomannan polysaccharide is the classification of this polymer.

Cellulose Gums:

Carboxymethyl Cellulose, its salts and its derivatives.
This cellulose is generally available in the form of sodium salt. The polymer derived from this salt is soluble in hot as well as in cold waters. Creating cellulosic materials water-soluble does the manufacturing of this gum.

Bio Fermented Gum:

Xanthan gum
This gum is made by the process of fermentation. The special bacteria, bacterium xanthomonas camprestris is the main agent in processing bio fermentation to obtain this gum.

Seaweed extracts:

Carrageenan
This gum is extracted from the red seaweeds, a hydrophilic colloid. Some important sources of these red seaweeds are Eucheuma, Gigartina and Chondrus. This gum is sub classified under the category of lamda, kappa and lota carrageenans.

Fruit extracts:

Pectins
The peels of citrus fruits like Apple, Beet etc are the sources of fruit gum extracts. The fruit extracted gums are classified as high and low methoxy and amidated pectins.
